Many people, despite a good diet and exercise will still have fat that deposits around the face. These fat deposits can make people think they look older, look overweight or just plain unattractive. These fatty deposits can create the appearance of bags under the eyes, sagging jowls, double chin, turkey neck, heavy and worn upper eyes, and excess fat around the neck. When people lose a lot of weight, they can be left with areas of excess fat and it can also become an issue for people as they age. Facial liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure that is fast and effective to get rid of the premature signs of aging. It also works to bring your facial features into better proportion and is effective at creating a more defined jawline. When fat deposits are removed for the chin, neck, jaw and cheeks, it will improve the contours of your face. The procedure is done under local anesthetic. First the excess fat will be localized and anesthetized. Then a small incision will be made in a concealed area that isn’t near the area where the liposuction will be done. A device called a cannula is then inserted into the incision to gently remove the excess fat. There will be no pain because you’ll be under local anesthetic. Even small amounts of removed fat can create a significant difference in appearance.
The recovery is relatively minimal. You’ll wear a snug elastic dressing over the areas that were treated. This will last for a few days and each night for a few more weeks. Your face will need to be iced for a few days following the procedure to help with pain, swelling and bruising. Most patients can return to normal activity in 2-4 days. You will start to see the results within about 6 weeks but to see the full results it can take anywhere from 6-12 months. The procedure is a permanent solution. After puberty we don’t produce many new fat cells and when people gain weight it only expands existing fat cells. Facial liposuction will permanently remove those unwanted fat cells.
One procedure should produce the results you desire, but some people will want to have it done again as they get older. Good candidates for facial liposuction are those who are in good overall health, those who have enough excess fat in the facial area, those that have skin with good elasticity and those who have realistic expectations.
