Rhinoplasty Q & A
What is rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty, sometimes called a “nose job,” is a surgery to reshape your nose. It’s a common cosmetic procedure to enhance your facial proportions and appearance.
The team at ENT Specialists can correct various issues, including:
- Disproportionate nose size
- Width of the nose at the nostrils or bridge
- Bumps or depressions
- Enlarged, bulbous, drooping, upturned, or hooked nasal tips
- Wide, large, or upturned nostrils
- Asymmetry
The team might also recommend rhinoplasty to correct structural abnormalities like a deviated septum.
Am I a good candidate for rhinoplasty?
You must be fully grown to have a rhinoplasty. You should also be in good health and have realistic expectations.
The team at ENT Specialists provides extensive pre-surgical consultations to discuss what you want to change. Your surgeon might recommend different or additional procedures to help you achieve the desired results.
What happens during rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure. Your surgeon provides general and local anesthesia to ensure that you sleep comfortably through the operation.
During the procedure, your surgeon makes incisions around your nose to access the bone and cartilage. Then, using special surgical instruments, they remove and reshape tissue to create your desired appearance.
The experienced facial surgeons at ENT Specialists sculpt and reshape your nose with a meticulous, artistic touch. When your surgery is complete, they carefully splint and bandage your nose to protect and stabilize it while you recover.
What should I expect after rhinoplasty?
You need to wear a splint and bandages for 5-8 days after your rhinoplasty. You can expect to have some bruising and swelling around your nose and eyes.
Your doctor prescribes medication to help manage your pain and reduce your risk of infection. They also provide aftercare instructions. For example, you shouldn’t blow your nose for at least a week after your operation. Cold compresses can relieve any discomfort, swelling, and bruising.
You also need to keep your head elevated, even while you sleep. You should avoid the sun and any activity, like strenuous exercise, that could result in pressure on your nose until you have a follow-up appointment, and your surgeon says it’s safe.
